Lose Weight for Life: The "My Story" Page
Losing weight can be challenging and that's why we all love to read a "My Story" article because it gives us hope and inspires us. While a vegan diet may not be right for everyone, Diane has a great story about changing her health and her weight using a vegan diet.
Diane's Story
My story probably starts a lot like yours. My quest to lose weight for life was elusive. I tried some diets and supplements, but always gained the weight back and more. I finally found the answer. I am thin in a healthy way and have more energy than ever.
The healthy lifestyle changes and plant-based diet I adopted will help you lose it for life too. You will be healthier than ever. Plus you will be inspired knowing you are saving the environment and helping to end animal suffering.
I want to help people lose weight in a healthy way. There are three other messages that are important to me.
I have always been an advocate for animals, even serving as the Board Chair of the San Diego Humane Society. I am sickened by the inhumane treatment of animals raised for meat and eggs. I hope if I can convince people to avoid eating meat and educate them about the horrors, we can force change in the meat industry.
Second, the environment. Pesticides, herbicides, and genetic modification of our food are destroying our environment. Organicly grown produce is clearly healthier. Methane gas from livestock is damaging the atmosphere. The production of meat, dairy, and eggs uses obscene amounts of fuel and water. If more people switch to organic produce and give up meat, we can save the planet.
Finally, the health benefits of this lifestyle go beyond weight loss. I am living proof. At age 32 I was diagnosed with an aggressive form of rheumatoid arthritis. My major organs were shutting down and I was close to death when the diagnosis was finally made. I was pumped with prescription medication and my condition stabilized, however I remained on harmful drugs for the following 13 years with no end in site.
The side effects of the medications I was taking to control the rheumatoid arthritis would eventually lead to premature death.
At age 44 I gave up a stressful but fulfilling job and went on disability. The side effects of the drug regime were making it impossible to perform my job. I decided to make some major changes.
Over the following six months I changed many things. I adopted a whole food, plant-based diet, added yoga to my exercise regime, started taking detoxifying herbal supplements, did breathing exercises and visualization, and sought treatment from a chiropractor/kinesiologist and acupuncturist. To my amazement, I effortlessly dropped to a healthy weight. I was able to eliminate some of the medications completely and reduced the others by 60%.
I am still on the journey to wean myself from prescription medication, but I am confident I will get there.
